Since VERY early times people have been burying their dead. There is some evidence, I believe, that incredibly ancient peoples would bury their dead with flowers, so funeral ceremonies have been part of human culture for a very long time indeed.brbrThose societies that dispose of their dead in other ways mark the burning or exposure of the body in special ways and the remaining bones and ashes are generally collected and given reverent treatment.brbrI have not heard that other animals even the apes, who are our closest relatives bury their dead but some certainly mourn in special ways when a member of their group dies.
