Philosophers Is fasting a virtue?

Question

Philosophers Is fasting a virtue?
We all know that Holy Week is being observed today. How do you comment those who do fasting? What does it teach us?

Answer

Today we are fasting from Grains and beans. It is said in the Vedas that during times during the waining and the waxing of the moon sin personified hides in the grains and if one consumes them during these two days they will be more influenced by him and one will be more inclined to sinful activities. There are so many benefits of this Ekadasi fast. Other fasts we do for the appearance and disappearance celebrations of saints and Incarnations of the Lord In this way we use our time to worship ther Lord instead of cooking and feeding our senses. Eating takes up a lot of our time and this is a way to be more selfless and contemplate God. To fast is a virtue. But it should be done on certain days so one can gain more virtue and piety. It is good to help one control the senses. But one must do it for spiriutal reasons or sometimes it is good for the health as well. Thanks.
